Overview
Modesty Blaise is a literary and cultural icon. Created by author Peter O'Donnell in the 1960s, first as a comic strip heroine and then more fully developed in a series of novels, she is often referred to as a 'female James Bond.' Though less well known than 007, she is a far more complex and fascinating character. If you have never read the books... run out and get one! And join the worldwide group of Modesty Blaise fans.
This blog is a companion to the Modesty Blaise Books website, and replaces the News page; older news can be found in the website's news archive. For those who haven't been to the website yet, there's much more there - hundreds of images of the book and comic covers; artwork; other media (including magazines, radio plays, merchandise, music); interviews; info on the MB fan group (information on how to join is on the links page); and more.
For those of you who are new to Modesty Blaise... there are many of us who could happily argue forever about which are better, the books or the comic strip. What it seems to come down to is which one people have a personal preference for, books or comics. Happily, both are being reprinted: the books by Souvenir Press (although the older ones are already out of print - check Abebooks if you can't find them) and Titan books. Reading this blog, you'll see how much of an influence Modesty has had on mainstream culture. She has also inspired a great deal of artwork (don't be put off by some of the less-than-stellar book covers!) and music.
